About LCDS
Since ballet is the basis for all dance forms, all LCDS students take ballet.
Our goal is a dancer who develops body strength, self-assurance, poise and
grace through barre, center floor, and combinations suited to their ability.
Learning to dance without ballet is a little like trying to go to college without
having studied English. LCDS produces well-rounded dancers because of their
ballet training! Other dance forms (tap, jazz) are added as age/abilities allow.
All body movements, steps, costumes, and music are carefully chosen to be
appropriate to the age of the dancer.

LCDS is NOT a competitive studio. We believe in nurturing our students and
we emphasize individual growth and achievement. We do not believe in
"drilling" routines to win a trophy or an award. Recital dances are a RESULT
of the technique learned in class. Moreover, students who spend an excessive
amount of time on one routine, usually can ONLY do that routine. At LCDS, we
refuse to "teach to the test" while allowing other technical skills and concepts
to suffer.

A dance classroom environment should be balanced with discipline while
providing a creative, positive learning experience. We feature a complete
dance education- including dance history, vocabulary, music theory, art
appreciation, interpretive dance, and movement with music.

Students learn self-esteem, poise, coordination, rhythm, memorization and
concentration skills. In addition, dancers also learn determination, discipline,
and develop a sincere love and appreciation for the art of dance. These
attributes carry over and will benefit their lives forever- physically,
emotionally, academically, and socially.
